Events (scenes aspects)

October 20th 1990 - 3:40pm - Good Intentions Medical Center - a private treatment room
Jacq is finally recovering after the heavy night before and she becomes aware that she is not alone in the room. Cody, who looks like he's spent the night sleeping rough & wearing dark glasses, is watching over her.  Jacq makes an effort to call for the nurse but Cody's hand is there before hers.  They argue, Jacq wanting Cody to leave her alone and Cody wanting Jacqueline to stop pumping her body "full of rubbish" and hanging out with losers and drug dealers.  Cody also reveals (part of) what happened the previous night, that he was walking Claire Bennet home and gave her his jacket (as it was cold), they stopped outside Jacq's apartment and he went around the back, he herd Claire scream and saw the killer ripping out her heart then he ran for it.  His apartment key he left in his jacket and he can't go to the police because the news is reporting that she was burnt in the fire at the Little Hawaii.  He needs his keys so he is going to stick around Jacq until he gets them.

About this time Dr Michaels walks in and lets Ms LeFranc know that she is free to go.  Cody hangs around while she dresses.

3:40pm - Devil's Rest Hotel - Cody's Room
Walter (having picked up Cody's key) thinks that they need to start looking for Cody and the best place to start is where he is staying.  Cody's room is on the floor above Mr Sparkles it's dark and gloomy and a real mess.  They don't find much of interest except for a video tape (with a handwritten label "J & C") which they play to discover that it's a sex tape and by the looks of it Jacqueline isn't aware of the camera.

4:15pm - Bert Tomson’s Place
Jacq's plan to palm Cody off on one of her contacts Robert Tomson (a barman at the Little Hawaii) goes awry when Bert is having some quality time with Bobbi.  Bert does offer Cody and Jacq to join in with them, even offering Jacq some "awesome new pills."  Cody then opens his mouth and spoils the deal by yet again telling Jacq that she needs looking after and protecting from "scum drug dealers!"  Bert shrugs and closes the door on them.

4:45pm - Good Intentions Medical Center
Crystal wants to head to the Medical Center to pick up Jacq and when they get there they find that Ms LeFranc has been discharged.  Crystal calls around her friends and eventually finds out that she was at Bert's a little while ago.  Walter gives Dr Mary Michaels a call, discovers that Cody was with Jacq and while he is talking arranges to take her out for a meal Sunday after work.

4:45pm - Jake Sullivan Private Investigator's Office
Jake has been cleaning up from the mess he made of the killer (in Episode One), he slept most of the day so is listening to the news of what happened at the Little Hawaii when there is a knock on his door.  The person is Mr Jesus Mendez who wishes to employ Mr Sullivan to find his runaway daughter Stacy.  Mendez gives Jake a post card from Stacy that was sent (date of posting October 12th) from Good Intentions, on the card she writes that she and Donny have found a better religion (than Catholicism).  Mendez tells Jake that he’ll be staying at the Devil’s Rest Hotel until Friday and gives him $500 and will double the fee if he can arrange a face to face meeting with his daughter Stacy.  Jake warns him that Stacy may not be alive but Mendez doesn't want to think about that until it happens.

5:20pm - Devil's Rest Hotel
For the first time the whole cast assemble in one place at the same time.  The bar is full to the brim.  Curtis and Candy have dropped by for a quick drink before going to Sundown.  Crystal and Walter are looking for Jacq as they believe that she will be looking for Mr Sparkles and finally Jake is looking for Mr Sparkles or any of the others that he was with when the killer attacked at the Little Hawaii.

Jake looking for answers about last night comes up blank as Curtis says he knows nothing and Mr Sparkles says that Jake and he were playing poker somewhere else all night.  Crystal does identify Donny Petersen who was hanging out with Stacy Mendez and thinking about it her memory clicks as she saw him earlier today as the scruffy chauffeur of Mr North.

When Jacq and Cody enter the scene it isn't long before things get a little heated.  Crystal plants Cody's room keys back on him then asks if he's checked his pockets.  Cody does, but lies very badly that he hasn't got them.  He is sticking with his idea that he is Jacqueline's knight in shining armour and he will save her from the evils of the world.  Mr Sparkles thinks that giving him a swift kick (or knee) to the balls will help the situation.  That's when Cody starts swinging at Mr Sparkles (back story is that Mr Sparkles helped out Jacq by beating up Cody) this time Cody has the power of corruption on his side his muscles having been enhanced giving him a Superb Physique.  Mr Sparkles, Jake and Crystal engage (or attempt to engage) Cody physically while Jacq tosses taunts at him and Walter pushes the boundaries of his corruption (he is a walking tri-corder) in attempting to alter the chemicals within Cody.

The fight ends when Cody shoves Jake into Mr Sparkles, he then realises that the whole room is in fear of him so he then makes a run for the window.  Mr Sparkles chases after him (without showing any willing to capture him) but Cody escapes into the night.

12:00 pm - Devil's Rest Hotel
Mr Sparkles is in the Restaurant/Bar area of the hotel, it's full of people as the Little Hawaii is closed.  As he is eating his meal of lobster thermidor he is joined by Walter and a rather bedraggled Crystal, who is turning more heads than normal with her burnt attire.  They discuss at length the events of the past day and attempt to come up with a workable plan.

While they are discussing this Curtis joins them and is bought up to speed on what's happening.  Crystal, who is feeling rather charred decides to freshen up so pops to the ladies washroom.  While there she bumps into Candy Sugar who gives Crystal a pill to help her brighten up.  Crystal mistakes Candy for Claire Bennet and exits from the washroom as if she had seen a ghost, Candy hot on her tail.

Back at the table Candy chats with Curtis, telling him that he should take her out to the party at Sundown tonight.  He blows her out at first, Candy declares him as being dumped, but then changes his mind and then attempts to placate her and puff up her ego.  Candy accepts his advances on the condition that they enter into an official relationship, Curtis doesn't decide on the spot so Candy tells him to call her at home as she'll be getting ready for the party tonight.

1:30pm - The Little Hawaii
The group go mob handed to see if Anton Rockford would be willing to sell the Little Hawaii and when they arrive they see that that its not only them who've had the same idea.  A man wearing a black suit is talking to Anton and it looks as if Anton is about to make a big decision.

Curtis approaches and discovers the situation that the man in black is Mr North who is happy to purchase the Little Hawaii from Anton to turn it into a meeting place for his religious organisation.  The shock of the prospect of the Little Hawaii turning into a 'church' sends Curtis into a momentary trance, Walter however interjects that he would be willing to purchase the Little Hawaii or to make a cash donation to keep it running.

Anton explains that he put a lot into making the Little Hawaii what is was and to see it burnt out like it is just fills him with despair.  He just can't go on with it.  Mr North then prompts Anton to except his offer of a Superb (+5) amount of money for the property.  Anton can see that Curtis and the others don't want the Little Hawaii become a 'church' and so says that he will accept the largest offer of money at Midday on Monday.

Mr North is happy with this and after saying his goodbyes strolls over to his car.  His chauffeur is rather scruffy and looks quite out of place waiting outside the limo with mirrored windows.  The chauffeur opens the door to let Mr North in and Walter sees that the occupants are wearing dark glasses.

2:30pm - Sure Ski
Having put their collective heads together they have managed to get a full name for Brendan and a name for the mad-woman.  Brendan Poole is the assistant manager of Sure Ski and the mad-woman is Helen Hopewood a local ski instructor.

When they arrive at Sure Ski they find the shop very busy preparing for the influx of skiers starting next week.  Most of the staff are working putting away merchandise a single staff member Mandy Moore, who happens to know Crystal, welcomes them.  Walter decides to browse looking for inspiration on how to raise some cash while Mr Sparkles pokes around and Curtis and Crystal talk to Mandy.

Mandy at first doesn't let on that Brendan is at the shop, but then accidentally lets slip that he is in the back office hiding from Helen.  Crystal and Curtis press her to let them see Brendan but Mandy gets into a flap as she promised not to tell anyone and is frightened of losing her job.

Meanwhile Mr Sparkles pops out of the shop and walks around the back, he looks in through the back window and see's that the blinds are drawn.  Upon returning to the shop floor he declares in a very loud voice that he has seen Brendan in the back office.  Mandy goes into a flap and the rear door slams shut.

Mr Sparkles and Crystal give chase while Curtis comforts the distraught Mandy and Walter is in despair that he is surrounded by muppets.

Outside Crystal uses her Great (+4) Athletics to easily run down and corner Brendan.  Crystal and Mr Sparkles talk about helping Helen but Brendan isn't convinced that they mean her no harm.  He tells them that Helen will be fine as she has a bunch of new friends to help her and he is sure that Nathan North will set her straight.

Events (scenes aspects)

October 20th 1990 - 9:20 am - Good Intentions, Sheriff's Office
Crystal and Jacq  are sleeping it off in a cell, Crystal awakes to hear a conversation.
...are these the two girls that reported the incident?”  Crystal doesn't know who this voice belongs to, just that it's male, she can't get a good view of him without making an obvious move.
No, these two are the girls I picked up off the street outside the brunet’s apartment both of them out of their heads.  I saw the body when I was booking them.” This voice Crystal recognises as Bill Mallard, the local sheriff.
Let’s just keep it that way then sheriff.  Oh! and sheriff, you didn't see a body outside the apartment.”
Yes, my mistake.  Goodbye Mr...”
Goodbye sheriff.

After the other man leaves Mallard opens the cell and talks with Crystal.  He tells her that if she knows what's best for her then she will forget what she saw last night and tell no one about it.  Crystal agrees then Mallard tells her to get cleaned up using the showers then she can help him get Jacq to the Medical Center.

9:30am - Devil's Rest Hotel
Mr Sparkles is in his room at his desk writing up his report when he hears the following news report on the radio.

"... breaking news on the fire at the Little Hawaii bar; the two victims of the fire have been named as Claire Bennet, a local search and rescue hero and Tim Quinn an employee of the bar, the cause of the fire is still unknown.  Now over to Cora on the weather desk..."

As Sparkles is mulling over this in his head the telephone rings.
"Is that Mr Sparkles, I've got a man on the line for you a Mr Castle."  It's the owner of the hotel a Mrs Rachel Findlay and Mr Sparkles asks her to put him through.

Mr Castle asks for a complete report of the events of the previous night concerning the "rogue agent."  He makes no mention of the fire at the Little Hawaii and Mr Sparkles doesn't press the issue.

10:10am - Good Intentions Medical Center
Mr White is laying in a private treatment room, hooked up to medical monitors and feeling a little out of it, the drugs are working.  In comes a stunning redheaded doctor as she approaches Walter scans her name badge reading her name Dr Micheals.  While treating Walters wounds she asks how he got them.  Walter tells her that it was some kind of dangerous mountain cat.

The door bursts open and Max enters, he is a large black man with dreadlocks wearing mirrored wraparound ski goggles and a jacket with a suspiciously large bulge under one arm.  He tells Dr Michaels to get out and when she doesn't comply he calls for Jimmy and an oriental comes in with a couple of nondescript men behind him.  Jimmy and his men slap Dr Michaels around while Max talks to Walter.

Max puts forward a special offer from his boss Ms Tia Takashi, either get out of Good Intentions or die.  Walter asks where he can find Ms Takashi so he can correct this misunderstanding and Max lets him know that she will be at Sundown (a bar/club that she owns).

While Max and his goons are leaving Dr Michaels has run to the front desk to get security and bumps into Sheriff Mallard and Crystal as they are booking in Jacq.  Crystal overhears the conversation about what happened and discovers that it was in Walters room so she slips away in search of Walter.

Crystal finds Walter in his bed a little worse for wear but at least the drugs are still killing the pain.  Crystal is telling Walter what has happened earlier when sheriff Mallard comes in.  Mallard asks Walter what happened and Walter isn't letting slip any details other than Ms Takashi has threatened him.  Mallard is nonplussed and lets Walter know that he can't do anything to Ms Takashi (something is staying his hand but no one has figured out what at the moment) but he will be able to do something if Walter turns up dead.

10:30am - In Walters Car on the way home
Dr Michaels after giving Walter some meds for the pain lets him out, but she does give him her personal card telling him to call her if he needs anything.

In the car journey Walter is talking Crystal into breaking into Sundown to plant evidence so that Mallard can arrest her without Walter getting killed.  Crystal is all game for this as anything that keeps Walter alive and her in work is good in her books.  It's about this time when Crystal looks up and sees a man in the road in front of the car, she slams on the breaks and fortunately misses him, but strikes a lamp post bringing the car to a sudden stop, inflating the air-bags.

A stunned Crystal gets out of the car to see a redheaded woman standing in the road shouting at her "You almost killed my man!"  Crystal makes some noises to try and calm her but the woman bursts into flame and proceeds to then launch a ball of fire at Crystal.  Crystal attempts to evade the ball of fire, calling on her control over snow and covers herself in a frosty armour this protects her but not her clothes (taking a mild consequence of my outfit is burnt rags).  Crystal decides that she can't take on the wild woman while she is tossing fireballs at her so attempts to wrestle her to the ground, however Crystal doesn't take into account that the woman is covered in flames and doesn't manage to get close enough.  Walter in the meantime scoots over to the drivers seat and backs up the car, lining up to ram the fire tossing mad-woman.

Wanting to turn Crystal into a crispy critter the mad-woman tosses another ball of fire this time Crystal leaps out of the way of the blast but into oncoming traffic and ends up with major concussion (a moderate consequence) as the vehicle collided with her head.  Walter guns his car to ramming speed and attempts to run down the mad-woman, who by the skin of her teeth managed to leap out of the way and then run off after the man calling out "Brendan!"

and
Jake Sullivan (Ex-con turned PI who is trying to go straight and failing)

Events (scenes aspects)

October 20th 1990 - 2:23 am - Good Intentions, Mammoth Mountain (CA) - lightly snowing
Walter gives Crystal a hand getting Jacq back to her apartment (Jacqueline having passed out) while Mr Sparkles follows observing them.  When they arrive at the apartment it's the dead of night.  Crystal notices someone laying down by Jacq's front door and gets out of Walter's car to take a closer look.  Mr Sparkles gets closer to see what is going on watching Crystal approach the fallen person.

When Crystal gets close she can see it's a woman, a dead woman who has had her chest ripped open, just looking at the body fear wells up in her "Oh! My God, it's a body!"  Crystal panic's and runs back to Walters car, which he locks and watches Crystal banging on the windows and trying to get in.
Mr Sparkles moves closer to the body to take a look, drawing a silenced pistol from under his coat he looks at the corpse with soldiers eyes and sees that "It was no human that did this" he also recognizes the jacket draped around the woman's shoulders as belonging to Cody Brian (Jacqueline and he have had a run in with Cody before).

Walter is saying in the car and not coming out, until Crystal blurts out that the woman has had her heart ripped out, this he might find interesting so he gets out of the car, grabbing a tire iron and a flashlight from the trunk.  We he sees the body he is overcome with Horrific fascination, he must know more!

They investigate the scene and discover the identity of the woman as Claire Bennet, a local search and rescue worker, she is missing her peach silk scarf and she had recently taken some star-shine.  Looking at the wounds Walter concludes that they were made by smallish clawed hands that ripped and rended the torso, pulling out the heart, the murder happened recently.  Two sets of tracks spotted leading away from the scene, one set of larger tracks lead around the side of the apartment towards the back the other smaller set head overland back towards town.  The smaller set look a little odd but it's figured out that the smaller tracks are made by a barefoot person.  The tracks that go around the back of the apartment are checked and it looks like the person got to the back door, began to look for something then ran off (in the direction of out of town, more than likely headed to the Slippery Slopes bar).

Mr Sparkles gets Crystal to call the police after Walter dumps the still sleeping Jacq out of his car.  Then Mr Sparkles and Walter drive off leaving Crystal to handle the Police.

The Police arrive in the form of Bill Mallard, he takes control of the scene and seeing that Jacq and Crystal are both under the influence gets one of his deputies to take them back to the station to sleep it off in the cells.

3:30am - Walter's Drugs Laboratory
Walter and Mr Sparkles pick up the bloody barefoot tracks and they lead them back to Walters place outside they bump into Curtis who is looking for Crystal to score something for a party.  They notice that the building has been broken into, bloody hand prints are spotted around the door.  Mr Sparkles brings Curtis up to speed regarding the situation while Walter readies his tire iron and trusty flashlight.

When they enter the building they see that the normally organised and working laboratory has become a broken tangled mess.  Bloody hand prints and scratches have been left everywhere, the killer came here looking for something that they didn't find.  Walter discovers small pieces of flesh have been left behind in some of the deeper scratches also checking his inventory that it looks like none of his stock has been taken.  However he didn't have any star-shine in stock.

The killer left via a window, smashing it as they left, and headed in the direction of Little Hawaii.

4:15am - Little Hawaii
All is quiet at the Little Hawaii, it's after hours and should be locked up tight as the trio approach they can see someone laying face down on the ground keeping the door open.  As Curtis and Walter approach they can see that the normally busy bar is now big, empty, creepy and dark after-hours and is that a spot of blood?  Curtis half recognizes the man as a guy that works at the bar (Curtis being a regular) and hoping to help him he reaches around and turns him over to reveal that he is in a pool of his own blood and is missing most of his jaw.  It's been clawed off. Curtis loses it big time as "My hands are covered in blood!"

This is when Jake arrives on the scene.  They have a quick chat about what's happening and decide to enter the dark bar, well Curtis is left outside for a moment until he realises that he is all alone outside then follows up Mr Sparkles making sure he is behind him not wanting to get in front of the man with a gun.

They follow the bloody trail inside the bar, Walter leading the way with Mr Sparkles, Curtis and Jake following.  They get to the bar area and Jake heads behind the bar to pick up a bottle of Bud.  Seeing this Mr Sparkles is thinking about making himself a drink and doesn't notice that Walter has crossed to the other side of the bar and has found the entrance to the cellar open.  There is a sudden sound of items smashing, Walter gives out a warning cry just before the killer leaps on him knocking him back into a table.

Mr Sparkles re-thinks making a drink and calls out a name to the killer, thinking that it might distract them.  Curtis dives behind the bar and for want of a better word cowers in fear.  Walter scrambles over the table hoping to put distance between him and the mad creature trying to rip is chest open. Jake, being a two-fisted PI jumps over the bar and throws a mighty fist at the killer who in one cat-like motion ducks under the blow and pounces over the table clawing at Walter attempting to open his chest with her razor sharp claws giving him a Sucking chest wound in the process.

Mr Sparkles takes aim and shoots at the killer the bullet ripping into the darkness, Curtis continues to cowers, Jake gets a bit of a red mist up and barrels into the killer booting he in the ribs causing something to be cracked and uncomfortable.  This allows Walter to get to his feet and make a run for the door.  The killer ignores Jake and pounces after Walter, this time being unable to get her claws into him.

Mr Sparkles takes another shot at the killer, another near miss, the killers luck is rapidly wearing out.  Curtis continues to cower in fear.  Jake jumps on the killer, bravely grappling her, making use of her cracked ribs he keeps her from attacking Walter who now the killer is restrained decides to use the tire iron giving her a bit of a smack down.

Walter takes a second swing and the killers luck is all out, Jake headbutts her from behind and she falls to the floor.  Jakes rage takes control of him and he continues to headbutt the killer until there is nothing left of the head except a bloody pulpy shattered mess of blood and bones.

Once Jake has calmed down he finds himself alone in the bar with Mr Sparkles.  Curtis has taken Walter to the local Medical Centre to get him patched up.  Mr Sparkles tells Jake that it's okay, he'll take care of the scene.  After Jake leaves Mr Sparkles calls up his Agency contact, as monsters like this should be recovered for study.  Only thirty minutes later Mr Castle turns up to take care of business.
